If you’re planning to work in the NDIS sector in WA, you’ll need an NDIS Worker Screening Check (NDIS Check). This clearance ensures you are safe to work with people with disability — and is a legal requirement if you’re working in certain NDIS roles.
In WA, the process includes an online application through the DoTDirect portal and a visit to a Department of Transport (DoT) Centre.

📝 What Is the NDIS Worker Screening Check?
The NDIS Worker Screening Check is a background check that assesses if a worker poses a risk to people with disability. In WA, this is called the NDIS Check and is mandatory if you’re working in a risk-assessed role with a registered NDIS provider. Some unregistered providers or self-managed participants may also choose to require it.

Create an account or log in to your existing account.
Start your application:
Once logged in, ensure you have selected the “NDIS Check” section.
Complete the online form with your personal and employer details.
Book an in-person visit to a DoT Centre:
Bring your identity documents.
Staff will verify your identity and take your photo.
Pay the fee in person or online.
Wait for your employer to verify your application in the national database.
Your application will then be assessed by the WA NDIS Worker Screening Unit.

⏳ How Long Does It Take?

Applications involving a criminal record: may take several weeks
Processing only begins after your identity is verified and your employer confirms your role
You can start working while your application is being processed if:
You’ve completed ID verification
Your employer has verified your application
No interim bar is placed

Clearance is valid Australia-wide for 5 years.
You’ll receive a digital clearance — a card may be issued if required.
If an interim bar is placed, you must stop working immediately.
