Choosing the Right NDIS Registration Groups for Your Business
When applying to become a registered NDIS provider, one of the most important steps is choosing your registration groups — the categories of supports you’ll be approved to deliver under the NDIS.
These groups shape the future of your business. They affect:
The types of services you can offer
The audit pathway you’ll need to go through
What documentation and qualifications you’ll need
Who you can work with (e.g. self-managed vs NDIA-managed participants)
In this blog, we’ll break down what registration groups are, which ones are most common for new providers, and how to choose the right ones for your goals.
What are NDIS registration groups?
Registration groups are broad categories used by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission to classify the types of supports you deliver. Each group includes a set of specific support items listed in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits (formerly the Price Guide).
When you apply to become registered, you’ll select the groups that match the services you intend to provide. These selections directly impact your:
Audit type (verification or certification)
Application documentation
Practice Standards requirements
Business setup and staffing needs
Common registration groups for new providers
Here are the most popular registration groups among sole traders and small businesses starting out.
🛠️ Core Supports (Usually Requires Certification Audit)
These are hands-on, person-to-person supports considered higher risk. Providers offering these groups usually require a certification audit.
0107 – Assistance with Daily Personal Activities
Helping participants with personal care tasks such as showering, dressing, grooming, and mobility support.0125 – Participation in Community, Social and Civic Activities
Supporting participants to access their community, attend social events, or participate in recreational activities.0116 – Innovative Community Participation
Developing participants’ skills and confidence through community-based experiences, mentorship, or creative programs.0115 – Group and Centre-Based Activities
Facilitating structured activities or programs delivered in a group setting or at a centre (e.g. cooking classes, group outings, arts programs).
🧽 Lower-Risk Supports (Usually Requires Verification Audit)
These supports involve practical, lower-risk assistance and typically require a verification audit. This is often the preferred pathway for sole traders just starting out.
0120 – Household Tasks
Providing domestic help such as cleaning, laundry, meal prep, or basic home maintenance to support independent living.0135 – Assistance with Travel/Transport Arrangements
Helping participants access the community by supporting or providing transport to appointments, work, or activities.
💼 Capacity Building Supports (Audit Type Depends on Group)
These supports aim to build a participant’s skills, independence, and capacity. Audit requirements vary depending on the service risk and practitioner qualifications.
0128 – Therapeutic Supports
Delivered by qualified allied health professionals like occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech pathologists, or psychologists. Usually a verification audit is required, provided you hold the appropriate qualifications and registration.0118 – Early Intervention Supports for Early Childhood
Supports for young children provided by early childhood specialists, allied health professionals, or developmental educators.0132 – Support Coordination
Assisting participants to understand and implement their NDIS plans by connecting them with providers, helping manage services, and building capacity. This group usually requires certification and strong documentation.0110 – Specialist Behaviour Support
Delivering behaviour assessments and developing positive Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) for participants with complex needs. This group requires a certification audit and providers must meet the Behaviour Support Module of the Practice Standards. Behaviour practitioners must also be registered with the NDIS Commission.
How your registration group affects your audit
Your selected registration groups determine whether you go through a verification or certification audit.
📝 Important: If you select any certification group, your whole registration will require a certification audit — even if some of your other groups are verification-level.

How to choose the right registration groups
Not sure where to start? Here are some questions that can help you decide:
1. What services do I want to deliver?
Think about the services you’re passionate about and experienced in. Are you providing support in the home? Running group programs? Offering transport or behaviour support?
2. What am I qualified or experienced to deliver?
Some groups (like Therapeutic Supports) require formal qualifications and registration. Others (like Household Tasks or Community Participation) don’t require formal qualifications but still expect relevant experience.
3. Who do I want to support?
If you plan to work with NDIA-managed participants, you must be registered. If you're working with self-managed or plan-managed participants only, registration is optional — but it can still build trust and increase referrals.

4. What audit process am I prepared for?
If you want a simpler, faster pathway, start with verification groups. But if you plan to deliver personal care or group programs, you’ll need to meet the certification standards — and it’s worth preparing properly.
Can I add registration groups later?
Yes — you can apply to add groups after you’re registered. But keep in mind:
You may need to undergo a new audit or review
If the new group is certification-level, it may change your audit type
It’s often easier to register for all your planned groups from the start
